This year Smiles Dance Academy’s sponsored charity is Motability

Motability is a national disability charity, which helps disabled customers and their families to become mobile through the provision of vehicles and powered wheelchairs. Some Motability customers need extra financial help to pay for suitable cars, adaptations or driving lessons, which their allowance alone won't cover. Motability provides a range of grants to help those customers who may otherwise not be able to afford the mobility solution they need.

SMILES Dance Academy… will be holding special events to raise funds for national disability            charity Motability who run the Motability car scheme. Any funds raised will go towards helping people like Ellie………..

In many ways, six year old Ellie, is just like any other child, but Ellie was born with a neurological disorder called Rett’s Syndrome, a degenerative condition which mainly affects girls. She will never be able to walk, talk or lead an independent life.

Ellie’s mum, Sophie decided to join the Scheme and chose a Vauxhall Zafira. She also applied for a grant from Motability to help towards the cost of a swivel seat for Ellie. Sophie says, “Ellie can’t walk, so everywhere she goes she has to either be carried or pushed in a wheelchair. It’s wonderful being able to fit her wheelchair into the boot easily, and to sit her in the swivel seat without all the struggle I used to have with my smaller car before I joined the Scheme”.

This is where Motability needs your help, adaptations to vehicles are very expensive but without them families like Ellie’s would suffer enormously. Every year we need to raise £3million to provide grants for all our customers who need driving lessons, adaptations to a vehicle or simply a larger vehicle to suit all their families’ needs.
